ubuntu reinstall

so i installed ubuntu on moms computer and it worked fine until i tried to install a package. That didnt install and gave error in the synaptic package installer. Which i googled and tried tons of commands to try to fix.

So i am going to reinstall now. But i still havent figured out how to get the printer installed any one know?

First the error that came up when you tried to install the package would be nice, the chances of whatever happened requiring a reinstall are slim to none. And the type, model, etc of printer that you're trying to install would probably be good to know too.

yeah i reinstalled already, but the printer is a epson stylus C60, http://www.linuxprinting.org/s...ecnum=Epson-Stylus_C60

which it says it works on that web site but dunno how to install it in ubuntu. I goto printers but it needs a PPD file i think

edit: LOL i think i got it there was a blank place that if you click it has the driver there 🙂

EDIT 2: well it sends the print job but no ink on paper... it maybe out of ink gotta ask parents later

i think the best tip for a new ubuntu user is to use synaptic for everything. Any performance hit if i run this in my main rig and use VM to game? Any 1st hand experience on this?

I don't think any of the VM solutions available do decent 3D acceleration yet. Supposedly the next version of VMWare Workstation and Parallels 3 should do it but I haven't used any of them.

man that sucks i kinda like this linux but i can't get beryl to work on this old geforce 2 440, even though it says its supports it 🙁 it has issues

From poking on nVidia's site you need the 9755 drivers for a Geforce2, I have no idea if newer drivers will still support it or not. But also Beryl is being phased out in favor of Compiz Fusion so you might have better luck with that.
