UBUNTU LIVE CD WEIRDNESS - NEED HELP

So I downloaded Ubuntu 5.10 Live CD iso, burned it to cdrom, and proceeded to test drive the distro. Everything was going fine until the desktop started to load... I rebooted and retried getting the Live CD to work several times, sometimes I would get a login screen and sometimes I would only see the mouse pointer, get the desktop background and hear welcome music, and that's all... no matter what I tried, nothing happened after that... During the times I got the login screen, I tried to just click OK to login, but it would just be stuck there after a popup appears saying I have 30 seconds to login... I can move the mouse pointer but nothing else happens, and it appears the login window and popup window are frozen...

Anyway, I thought maybe I should try 5.04 Live CD instead, in case 5.10 had problems, but the same thing happens to me..

I have the following system:

Sempron 2800+
nvidia geforce 6200
512mb ram
2 dvd burners
2 hdd
envy24ht-s audio card
pvr500 tv tuner card

I see no errors whatsoever while Live CD is loading...

Anyway, I'd appreciate it if someone could let me know what the problem is...

I would suspect checksum errors - but thats unlikely if it happens for 5.04 also. Knoppix live CD I have found to be very robust in hardware detection - give that a try - or Simply Mepis or Suse 9.3

5.10 is still beta last I checked, so it's possible there is a problem with it. If you've verified the md5 or sha1 checksums, I would try 5.04 and see if it works.

i tried 5.04 with the same results. don't think the problem is bad images or discs but something having to do with x.org or something like that.. my keyboard freezes during bootup... this appears to be a problem a number of people have reported... hope they get it fixed.
