Ubuntu / linux ?

I have been running ubuntu for a while now, so I decided to start moving files to native linux partitions. Cleaned off my 160 gig hd and partioned and formated with gparted, I can see the drive but it tells me to do anything with it I need root access. How do I change this. Once I do this i will move everything from my 200 gig hard to this and repartition and format that, and just have a little windows partions. The drive is mounted.

Give yourself ownership of the top directory of the newly mounted filesystem.
