Ubuntu LAMP install, RAID 1 setup help

I need to setup a server at our office to host a SQL database. I plan on installing Ubuntu, and then host the DB portion with drives in RAID 1. Should I get 3 drives, have the OS on one, and then have two other drives dedicated to the RAID 1 DB?
