Ubuntu-Kubuntu Dual Boot Diff HD's ?

I've found lots of info about mutli-booting Windows and Linux, but none for what I want to do. I have an older generation box ( Intel i875 w/ 3.0Ghz CPU ) that I want to dual boot with Ubuntu 6.10 and Kubuntu 6.10. I want them on separate Hard Drives. I have 2) 74GB WD Raptors. I would also prefer that the non booted OS be "offline unmounted". E.G., invisible as if it were unplugged. Any help is greatly appreciated.

TIA!

just curious why you want to dual-boot this? you can load the one you want and then get the packages for the other windows manager/enviroment and select the one you want at boot time

Because I want to compare both UBUNTU Gnome and KDE environments independent of each other to test performance and functionality differences, but using identical hardware. Since I don't have another identical box, this seemed like the best solution.

should work independently my way too - the core (non-windows manager stuff ) linux settings will be the same but the windows manager settings should be different.

You can do what you want, install one, then install the other, will probably have to change settings in LILO or GRUB and I think the other hard drive wont show up or you can edit the file that controls automounts (at work and my linux is a little fuzzy today)

You could always physically unplug the other drive when booting one, that would be the most sure fire way to do it. Frankly I'd just install one distro and put both KDE and Gnome on it, from there you should be able to choose which one you want to use from the session list on the login manager.
