Ok, I came to the realization that a few apps I use in windows are not not available (or not running well) in Ubuntu. I type:

sudo cp /boot/grub/menu.ls /boot/grub/menu.ls.original

to edit the start-up but I get:

cp: cannot stat `/boot/grub/menu.ls': No such file or directory

Mmm, what do I do now?

I do believe you are looking for menu.lst. Anyway, type this into a terminal.

sudo gedit

This brings up the default text editor.

Anyway, after that you can find the file you are looking for through the file manager.
