Ubuntu install

Just because it has a GUI does not mean it's user friendly....

I was going to use Ubuntu to make it easier for a quick machine for someone with a SW raid1 of 2 drives, but Ubuntu doesn't offer that as an option during partitioning, like the Deb installer does.

GRRR.....oh well, time to burn the newest stable Netinst CD.

Yeah, I thought it was dumb that it wouldn't let me partition my drive properly... Ended up with a few unused partitions.

If they never said you could install RAID with the normal disc, I don't think you should taunt them for it. 😉 The alternate CD allows LVM and RAID configuration.

Other than RAID I have had no problems with ubiquity (the graphical installer). Simple, easy, and gets the job done. I was able to partition it to my needs and I think it lets you choose the filesystems (not sure about that).

If it's on the minimal install disc, you would think it would be an option on the full install disc.

Like I said, no big deal. It was the only CD I had around, so I had to download/burn the Debian Netinst cd for etch.

I can't remember which partitions it wouldn't let me setup, but the drop down boxes were quite limitting.
