Ubuntu CD finally arrived today

After about a month or more my Ubuntu CDs arrived today.

Am I about to have some fun this weekend - that is the question ???

I am going to try first on an old Dell laptop I have been reconfiguring.

Any quick tid-bits of advise ???

i think ubuntu is great. it was a snap to install and is just as fun to play around on. i'd say this has been a great first experience on linux.

I found an old laptop at work (a PII) to try the live CD on.

It has been working close to 2 hours now.

Is this normal ????

It looks like to me that the way it is accessing the drive that at least some temporary storage is being done on the hard drive.

If the windows install on this drive is taking the big majority of the hard drive space and there was not enough room for Linux to install, would it let me know this ?

Thanks.

what is "working"? it has been using the livecd for 2 hours, or it has been trying to boot the livecd for 2 hours? if it is the latter, that is not normal.

perhaps if you described at what point it stopped in the installation? Someone could help you.
It sounds like its having some hardware problems.
