GeForce 7600GS OverClock
I'm currently running Beryl on UBUNTU 7.04 The box is a PIV 3.0Ghz with 2GB Ram and a 128MB GeForce 6200 AGP. I've been experiencing the "black" blank windows prob though. The reason I've seen given is the videocard runs out of memory. I want to replace the card with a 512MB card. There is only about a $10-$20 diff between the GeForce 6800XT and 7600GS. I wanted to hear from any LINUX users that have either of these cards. I know LINUX drivers are always way behind Windows drivers "maturity" Does either chipset have full 3D driver support? Will Beryl work ?

TIA!

Most likely either one will work equally fine, I'm using a 7900GTX in Linux without any issues but I'm not using Beryl.

If I might ask, what driver are you using with the 700GTX ? I *THINK* the built in NV drivers are 2D only.

I am waiting for Video Card Manufacturers Like Nvidia and ATI to release a Free 3D Driver for Linux Distros. This will help Linux Users a Lot, in some distros I can say that is easy to Install some drivers, but in others is a truly nightmare for the users. Someone said that a manufacturer for exclusive opengl cards are arriving for that market niche. And there are 32 Million people using Linux (me too :) ) right now.
Nvidia drivers are stable enough for me in my machine, but every time I think in format my computer I postpone it by the work of installing headers for compiling Nvidia Kernel and the " Taint " message. A complete S***K.

Dual Opteron 265, 6 Gigs of Ram, LG 16X DVD Writer, 7900GTX, 32Bit Ubuntu OS 6.10 with High Mem and PAE Enabled, 400GB Seagate. Asus K8ND-L

Beryl and XGL works Great !. Avoid to buy turbocache cards, that's causing a bunch of problems for linuxers if you use more memory than the real memory of the card.
Between 6800XT 512 REAL RAM and 7600GS TURBOCRASH :D, I'd prefer 6800XT, unless we can shut down the turbo crash :D feature.

Chipset problems with PCI Express Cards, K8ND-L with 32 Bit OS needs to recompile kernel. 64 bit OS Support is great, but Blender still doesn't have 64 bit support from the B.F. , and even with the proper files, 32 bit blender isn't stable in 64 bit OS. :(

Yes nv is 2D only, I'm using the nvidia-kernel packages from Debian which contains the non-free nvidia driver.

Yea, good luck with that.
