My work place uses the Cisco VPN Client to allow remote users to connect to internal resources. Trouble is, there are no 64 bit tunnels and they have no plans to support 64 bit in the near future. The Cisco VPN Client that they provide is also older and won't even install on a 64 bit system, it also only works in Windows XP, Vista, and 7. 32 bit of course.
For the longest time, in order to remote into work, I've had to install and XP virtual machine on my Vista 64 machine to VPN in to work. Thankfully, I only have to do this rarely and what I need to do isn't a high bandwidth task usually. VPNing in this way is markedly slower than a VPN on the host OS, most likely because packets have to travel through two virtual adapters.
Furthermore, I've been getting Ubuntu 9.10 set up on my laptop with the goal of phasing Windows out entirely on it. Its not a gaming machine so this is something that is more realistic than attempting phase Windows off my main desktop. So sue me, I enjoy PC gaming.
