Ubuntu and a VAIO (restore partition)

So right now there is a restore partition and then one partition that has vista on it, some 189GB.

What I want to do is resize the 189gb partition, make it smaller to make room for a new ubuntu partition (any suggestions on the size for that?)

I guess my question is, can the restore partition still restore to the vista partition even if the sizing is different than original? or would I have to delete all partitions and make a new one (of the full 189gb) to restore Vista?

Thanks in advance
