Ubuntu 9.04 looks promising

So I installed the latest Alpha, and it boots in 20 seconds flat. It seems stable, and even has the hardware drivers available (for Nvidia anyway).

Overall it seems faster than XP or Windows 7 on my computer (Opteron 165 at 2.4ghz).

I don't think I will ever go back to paying for my operating systems when the open source stuff is this good.

i like it too. can't convert all the way over though. 🙁 Adobe hasn't made the switch.

I dunno; Inkscape and Gimp are pretty nice IMO. They do 95-100% of what Illustrator and Photoshop do. There's just a bit of a learning curve involved, which is well worth it considering those programs will cost you $500+.

Impressions versus Ubuntu 8.10? Because I already thought that was faster than XP and 7.

Anyhow, Windows stays on my computer until Ubuntu can play games.

It's identical to Ubuntu 8.10 interface wise.

All of the applications have been updated to more recent versions.

Everything is faster in it. OpenOffice Writer loads up in under 3 seconds. FireFox loads up almost instantaneously.
