Loaded Ubuntu 7.10 on my older workstation (Athlon XP 1800+) at home last night and everything went smoothly. Almost. My Linksys WMP54G PCI Wireless NIC (ver 4.1) isn't working. I did some Googling and apparently this is a known issue.

I came across several forum posts and different how-to's, none of which seemed to be the same. I didn't have a ton of time to delve into a solution, so I wanted to see if any of the gurus here know which is the Right Way before I dig into it tonight.

This is a pretty popular card and was somewhat surprised it didn't work right away.

Any help you can offer is much appreciated.

Downloaded and installed ndiswrapper. Tried to use the XP driver that came on the Linksys CD but it didn't work.

I'm going to try to find another driver that works with ndiswrapper tonight and if I can't I'm just going to reload XP Pro. I guess this stuff becomes second nature once you're using it daily, but it seems like a ton of work otherwise...

the rt2500 driver should support it, though it only confirms it for some fedore core versions:

last time i used a driver from there it worked without much trouble, i just followed the install docs that came with the driver

pay close attention to the docs though to find out what level of security it works with. i used the rt73 driver with an asus adapter and it supported wpa-aes flawlessly, but wpa2 generated * a lot* of log entries that grew out of hand (though it did technically work well)

Thanks for the reply. I'll keep the security part in mind. Will update when I get a chance to try a *working* driver. :)
