I'm basically at Linux newbie. Just installed Ubuntu 7.10 and I can't get the native resolution for my Dell 24" monitor, 1920x1600. The highest it goes is 1600x1200.

Ideas?

First make sure you have Universe and Multiverse enabled for reposatories then -Go to terminal and type without the quotes "sudo apt-get install envy" then "Y".
After it installs type in the terminal "envy"
When envy boots follow the step by step to install proper drivers for what ever video card you are using.
After the correct drivers are all installed it will ask you to reboot,do so and now go to resolutions and you should be able to select the higher resolution you are wanting..
If you get stuck just let me know and I will help the best I can.

Check the specs of your Dell 24" monitor. The native res is 1920x1200..

How do I know? Because I have one. 2407WFP right? 😉

Load the driver from the CD that came w/the monitor or download it from Dell. Monitor drivers are often overlooked but very important.
