Ubuntu 14.04 Sluggish Performance

Hi all. Spent a couple days using Ubuntu 14.04 Server (headless, no GUI). Prior to that I was using 12.04 and went to 14.04 with a clean install. From the start it seemed like everything took longer. Boot times were slower than 12.04. Network latency was noticeable, whether I was logging into SSH or viewing Samba shares. I even did another install just to make sure it wasn't a one-off phenomenon. Overall it just felt draggy.

So this morning I went back to 12.04 and the differences were immediate and noticeable. Ubuntu 12.04 is much snappier and just seems to run better. I'll be sticking with 12.04 for the foreseeable future. I realize that 14.04 has just been released and bugs are going to exist, but seriously, a clean server install with nothing but SSH and Samba and it's having noticeable problems? I'm disappointed. I'm not even running a GUI. I had hoped that 14.04 would bring better performance through improved hardware support via the newer kernel, but that wasn't the case.

The question is, has anyone had similar experiences? Perhaps I'll try again after 6 months.

Nope, sorry. Ubuntu 14.04 is pretty snappy from what I've seen.

If Linux just seems to be lagging a bit for no apparent reason, you may be running into a name resolution issue. Make sure that you have DNS set properly, and if your DNS server doesn't have an A and PTR record for your machine, add them manually to your hosts file.

It's been a very worthwhile upgrade for me. I havn't noticed any performance degredation what so ever. I'm currently running 4 copies of 14.04 Server, so i can't speak for the desktop version.

I upgraded my mother's computer, and a web forum I use upgraded the aws instance, and both seem to work well. I don't admin the forum, so the performance is from a user's perspective, but I'm friends with the admin, and have heard no complaints aside from a persistent segfault that happened previously on 12.04.

my resolution is fine i have none of those lagging issues with google chrome, only with ffox28, those issues are with FFox28 and Ubuntu14.04lts;only after april 17 LTS release,i guess i will keep G Chrome, dispite to be a fan of Ffox,

If you go to Ubuntu 14.04's system update, FF 29 will be included as part of the update (about 93 Mb, last checked).
