Ubuntu 14.04 installation problem.

Hi,

I have no experience at all with ubuntu.
I am trying to install ubuntu on a compaq nx6125 for a friend. During live trial, i already got the message that the wifi is not working.

I googled and i found the following solution :

I opened a terminal and typed :
sudo apt-get install firmware-b43-installer
But i got the message that no firmware-b43-installer was available.
I guess this is because i got no ethernet connection. (I was at my friends house and he only has wifi.)

I was hoping that maybe the problem would solve itself if i installed ubuntu.
But the ubuntu installation hangs at Configuring bcmwl-kernel-source (i386)

I took the laptop home with me so i can work on it. But does anybody got some advice for me about certain caveat during ubuntu installation ?

It is Ubuntu 14.04.

Does anybody know how i can find the mac address in ubuntu ?
I need it for configuration of my router to allow network access.

EDIT:
I think i found it :

ifconfig -a

Yahoo. i got it installed. but my broadcom wifi does not work because there is no firmware for it present. Luckily, there is a guide for that.

I did just plugged in a usb wifi adaptor but nothing happens.
I guess Ubuntu does not have hardware recognition like windows has. :|

Oh man...Broadcom wifi. The bane of wifi on Linux. They refuse to release their code so the community is forced to reverse code it. My first install with Peppermint OS 3 was a nightmare because of this. I eventually figured it out but god it was awful. I actually had to edit grub to get any distro to boot.

Good to see you got it figured out man. Welcome to Linux.

EDIT:I decided to track my footsteps with this issue. It goes back to 2012. I singed up to the Ubuntu forums to say thanks. Post #16 was me. Post #6 was what solved it for me.
