I am a user of Ubuntu and after 3 months have it set up right for me with Ubuntu 12.04. Then I saw that Ubuntu 13.04 has been released and I can't decide if i should upgrade or not. I also noticed that Ubuntu 13.04 is not the LTS version like Ubuntu 12.04.

Can anyone tell me what does Ubuntu 13.04 do faster or better than Ubuntu 12.04?

After seeing some reviews I have seen that some games Ubuntu 13.04 is much faster than Ubuntu 12.04 but i am not using games.

Ubuntu 13.04 is a newer release of Ubuntu, so it has newer applications in its repository, as well as newer libraries. It also has a newer version of Unity.

The downside of using a non-LTS release is that they are not as heavily tested by Ubuntu, they have a shorter support lifetime, and they are not as well supported by third parties.

The use of PPAs for popular applications largely eliminates the need to upgrade to a newer distribution if you want to stay up to date with applications, so I personally don't run anything other than LTS releases outside of testing environments. Unless you want the absolute newest version of everything, I'd advise you to stick with 12.04.

I stayed with the lts releases when I ran Ubuntu. Between backports, and ppas, all the essentials are covered. The only thing compelling I could see is a newer kernel if it provided functionality you were missing.

I must admit i like Ubuntu 13.04. I have it as my 2nd OS on my laptop and desktop when i'm working up against my Linux servers at home and at uni.

I didn't upgrade though i did a fresh install.

Put it this way, i was using it for the entire weekend and only realised i was on Ubuntu when my wife came in and asked where Internet Explorer was. It's nice software.

Just turn off all the tracking crap under the privacy menu.

I also was running Mint14mate Nadia,i decided to try Ubuntu 12.04LTS and see what it looks like, and i think Mint14 is more friendly and somehow easyer but the Ubuntu 12.04 LTS is also very good and i do not encounter the booting problem of Mint14 that i had to have the display monitor on prior to the PC on otherwise the display would stay black hanging saying do not support the 600,700 resolution had to reboot pc it happened to me alot cause i would forget to turn on the display before turning on the display it was a pain in the butt,so now with Ubuntu it doesn't do that so i'm keeping Ubuntu 12.04,for now.
YOU guys know if there are any good tips to make Ubuntu 12.04 similar to Mintmate14?

Guys i installed Ubuntu 12.04lts and and red that i could upgrade to 12.10 so i did go ahead and from the ubuntu software i did everything went smoothly till it asked me to reboot after install everything but it Left me hanging upon booting up with a black screen i waited and waited but it did not boot up stayed black hanging there for long time so i was gonna do the ubuntu 12.04lts reinstall from the USB stick, but i decided instead do the mint14mate since it's better and friendly easier to use right from the box besides i'm used to it,i guess as most reviews say that Linuxmint 14 is the best Distro and they right,i will not try anything else unless they end support.
