Ubuntu 12.04 LTS 32-bit liveCD on USB using Unetbootin

As soon as I select my wifi network, and enter my credentials, Ubuntu hangs totally. Mouse no longer moves.

Using a Sony 4GB USB 2.0 MicroVault, with 2000MB persistance.

Laptop is an Acer Aspire One 722, with Atheros WiFi and Lan.

Edit: It was working earlier. I freshly downloaded the ISO and wiped the flash drive and re-formatted it, first with the HP format tool, and then with Unetbootin. (Since I had problems with the flash drive showing up as USB-FDD instead of USB-HDD, unless I used the HP format tool first.)

It wouldn't boot at all when BIOS detected the USB flash drive as USB-FDD. I just got a SYSLINUX sign-on banner and nothing else. Using the HP USB Format tool, before using UNetbootin, would allow it to be detected as USB-HDD, and I would get the UNetbootin menu.

I could then boot Ubuntu 12.04 LTS 32-bit. Except, when I signed into my wireless, it would hang hard.

I later went back and finished installing the drivers for Win7 64-bit, and after that, I made a fresh flash drive with Ubuntu, and I was finally able to boot Linux again.

I think that the SSD was in a funky state (been giving me trouble) and that was screwing up Linux.
