Being a PSN/XBLA game it is more comparable to From Dust than any AAA title. From Dust released with the crappy DRM when they said it wouldn't be and the controls were near totally broken.

http://kotaku.com/5832380/from-dusts-pc-release-is-a-man+made-disaster

Ubi blew it on that release. It had lots of hype leading up to it and a fair amount of good will even with the PC version delay. If that is what 12 guys working 3 months produce it is probably for the best they don't even bother porting over a pc version because they clearly don't know how.

Seriously? That is your point? I really gave you too much credit. MY point was that it wasn't just PC's that are pirated. Apparently you missed MINE. Which is what the comparison is really about. EVERYONE knows PC games are pirated, but it's always put in a context that consoles are not, which is NOT true.

They been blaming piracy for shitty, overpriced games for years.
This is not even a surprise.

Also, console games are pirated but somehow they forget about that.

okay. I would have been more than happy to accept your comparison.

I had much fun with modded PS2's back in the day, and I know a lot of people with modded wii's

IDGAF about console pirating.

Anyone who says that PC games aren't pirated is either
1. stupid
2. a liar

900 seeders for an old ass game, and that's not my point at all. My point is simply that PC games are pirated. You cannot refute this point. I use starcraft as my basis cuz that's the only pc game with no console ports I can think of.

Nobody here is denying PC games are pirated, or am I missing something?

WTF are you arguing about anyway?

I had a misunderstanding in post #18

I didn't even read the article. I'm just commenting on the "so few people are paying for PC games" part.

Ahh, internet misunderstandings. I predict a misunderstood text message between world leaders will start WWIII. :)

Uhh... who would those developers be?? Blizzard for sure, but I cant really think of anyone else really dedicated to the PC except for MMOs which I dont play.

Sad to say, but this is the way I see it now. Even Skyrim, which I like on the PC, was clearly designed for console. At least that is my opinion. They couldnt have designed such a terrible interface for the PC if they were making it primarily for that could they?
That's exactly my point, I'd like to see basically all of the major publishers just cut ties to the PC market instead of putting out trash ports on it. If the PC is just used as another console platform, there is no reason for it to even exist. There are plenty of foreign and indie developers that are struggling to find a share of the PC market here, and if the garbage was once swept out of the way, there would be plenty of room for them to push their budgets. Of course that's something that would take decades; although I think it's quite obvious that it started at least a little with the huge influx of popular indie games the last few years.

Despite the fact that I enjoyed Splinter Cell Conviction, anyway.

Splinter Cell went bad after Chaos Theory. The first 3 games still hold up really well.. and I'd rather replay those than the new crappy games.

No. I enjoy both the Prince of Persia and the Assassin's Creed series.

I enjoyed PoP too.. but that was in 2005. The series went to shit after The Two Thrones. I cannot comment on AC.

Ubisoft can take their shitty, bloated, DRM-ridden ports and leave the PC alone.

The PC platform is NOT a lost market. Steam has shown us that. I mean, look at Valve. They're making so much goddamn money, they can't buy giant metal vaults fast enough to store it all in. Meanwhile, Ubisoft is making absolutely terrible PC ports and treating their customers like criminals by implementing horrible DRM, and they're wondering why they're not getting any sales.

I don't care if more AAA game companies leave the PC. There are plenty of indie devs who will be perfectly happy to fill the gap.

Nothing of value has been lost here.

Correction:

"..so few people are paying for utter shit PC games."

Well, the thing with Ubisoft is that because of their crappy PR and constant BS about PC game/piracy; I don't even buy their console games now. I only buy their console games used, since I rather see money to go GameStop/Amazon/Used store than Ubisoft.

Fact: Piracy has always existed on any platform.

Fact: Piracy was more blatant years ago, like in the 80's, and yet companies like EA still managed to make a profit and grow... And are now dominating the gaming industry today 30 years later.

Fact: People will buy games if they are good and people like them. Doom/Quake showed this when it was shareware and/or pirated.

If companies like Ubi leave, there will be indy companies that fill the void. In fact, I really hope they do. I've had more fun this past year with Indy titles than mainstream titles. World of Goo, Defense Grid, Sanctum, all those games I've purchased through steam, and I've put more hours into them than any other big budget title. Except for maybe Rift (which is an MMO and shouldn't really count but I included it anyhow), this year alone.

I would have purchased a few Ubi titles over the years, Silent Hunter series, Settlers, HoMM, and a few others but I did not because I do not support Ubi or their DRM, and their stance on PC gamers. I learned to live without Ubi, not because I pirate, but because they suck... Oh, I forgot to mention. I was --->||<--- that close to buying IL2: Cliffs of Dover as well, but learned that Ubi pushed out a piece of shit to PC gamers without any quality control or anything else. It was severly broken to the point where they are rewriting the graphics, audio, and everything else related to the game... So its obvious Ubi only wanted to fuck over PC gamers by releasing it and basically tried to steal our money... I didn't fall for it, neither did alot of people.

Quality games bring the buyers. BF3 and Skyrim earned my $$, as did DE:HR, and Diablo 3 whenever that hits.

I think online-centric games such as BF3 and Diablo 3, SC2, WoW, etc, are where the real $$ and market is for PC game makers.

Obviously, xx million people probably downloaded BF3 and played the SP, but cannot play MP at all. Well, a good number of those on balance may beat the SP and want more, and end up buying the full thing to keep going. One could argue that some sales will be lost due to people only wanting to play the SP side of things, but I think that's a pretty distinct minority.

Anyway, quality games, and particularly those which depend on valid game keys and online access have been, are as of now, and will be .. sales monsters, and well worth the effort to bring to PCs.

Piracy hurts poor games and games without a real online / game key system inordinately. For all the people who illegally downloaded say MW3, I doubt very much that it impacted sales at all, which would be a huge contrast say for something like Skyrim, where a hacked copy is probably about the same experience as a legal copy in terms of gaming experience.

That's cool, I'll just make sure to buy all of their games used on the PS3. That way they don't get any money from me there either.

Also WoW makes 10 times all the console companies combined.
Maybe thats their real issue: Jealousy.

I guess I'll just keep buying piles of non-Ubi PC games from Steam then.

The Steam servers were crumbling under the weight of people trying to throw money at them this morning. If Ubi doesn't want piles of money from gamers that's their problem.

people aren't buying pc games?

Bethesda Game Studios disagrees. make a good game and people will buy it.
