It's been almost three years since the last Ghost Recon game, Advanced Warfighter 2, was released from Ubisoft. Today, they have announced a new game in the tactical shooter series titled Ghost Recon: Future Soldier.

We don't know how far into the future the game is set yet but we do know that Ubisoft is promising, "cutting-edge technology, prototype high-tech weaponry, and state-of-the-art single-player and multiplayer modes."

Ubisoft also says it will deliver "a fresh gameplay experience, with an unparalleled level of quality that will excite long-time fans and newcomers alike."

To get a taste of Ubisoft's Ghost Recon: Future Soldier, a limited multiplayer beta will go live this summer for the Xbox 360. Gamers who pick up Splinter Cell: Conviction will receive a code that will allow them to participate in the beta.

A teaser trailer for the game does exist but won't be released until tomorrow.

Ghost Recon: Future Soldier is scheduled to be released this upcoming holiday. No other console other than the Xbox 360 is mentioned yet but previous Ghost Recon titles were multi-platform titles.

Update: A Playstation 3 version of Ghost Recon: Future Soldier has been confirmed by Ubisoft via Twitter.
To those who wondered, Ghost Recon: Future Soldier will also release on PS3 : same experience, same development team and same release date.

This game may be awesome. Before their was Call of Duty 4, Ghost Recon had the best multiplayer FPS game on the market, IMO.

Three years later, watching the success of MW2. I'll bet they put out one hell of a game. I can't wait.

perhaps they can do what the GRAW franchise has entirely failed at and make this one not suck.

the original ghost recon is still a favorite of mine, though.

I liked it for the original XBox. However, once it moved to the 360, it was just the same rehashed game. (Similar to R6:Vegas 2 being a rehash of Vegas...at least R6:V was a "new direction" for the series)

If they can overhaul it I'll play it...I just don't want the exact same game yet again.

Hopefully the best weapons in the game won't be 120+ year old shotguns and combat knives.

Seriously though I am kind of excited. I'd like to see a game with tight controls like CoD but without the exact same gameplay. I was hoping BF:BC2 would provide this but it didn't.

That seems rather harsh... the first GRAW game, at least, was pretty excellent, especially given that it came out in the 360's first year.

Indeed, the first GRAW was great. Now that we are post-CoD4/MW however, the multiplayer needs a lot of work from what they did in the past.

You were expecting a sequel to be a complete overhaul? R6V2 was the game R6V should have been. It was an extremely polished version of it's predecessor.

No, I expect the sequel to be more than a map pack. What in god's name was so much more polished about R6V2? I can pick any game and name any number of flaws...no game is perfect. The game came out in Nov 2006...it was an absolutely kick ass game at the time, and still is.

And trust me, my roomie and I played the HELL out of R6:V. (As in, he bought a new 360 and R6:V the day I introduced him to multiplayer, and I subsequently moved my DLP to the living room and had two 360's, two TV's, a shitload of cables, and a damn good bachelor pad setup) Every waking second before and after work was spent playing it. We picked up R6:V2 the day it dropped, took the day off from work, and was bored with it within 2 days.

R6:V2 added what, a sprint feature? Picking up points in single player? Everything else was negligible. Polished? R6:V was one of the funnest games I've ever played, and have probably spent more time playing that online than even Quake 2, Halo 2/3, CoD, etc. R6:V2 added nothing worth of value to the series.

Halo --> Halo 2 was an overhaul. Even Halo 2 --> Halo 3, although a lot less, was still an overhaul. R6:V --> R6:V2 was a map pack. The reviews for the game clearly express the same opinions as I do.
