Never used it before but thinking of using them to get 3 of us to the airport. We haven't bought our tickets yet but we're looking at either 5 or 6am flights. With all of our luggage we're probably gonna need a suv too. Would we have any trouble finding a ride at 3:30-4:30am?

It would help if we knew what city ?

Where I am it would be available.

Yeah, it's going to be a problem. Most people won't bother staying up that late unless they can get a nice surge.

Since you need your ride to show up exactly on time and with a large cargo space, paying the extra for a real airport shuttle service would be safer than trusting that there happens to be a suitable gig worker driving at that time.

I disagree.

Depends on your market and how desperate the drivers are.

If the upside is saving $50 across 3 people and the downside is potentially missing your flight, why don't you use a pro?

My point exactly. Or does Uber buy you replacement plane tickets if you reserve an airport ride and they fail to show up?

If the driver cancels it finds another car for you.

This is why you plan ahead. Leave at least 3 hours or maybe 4 hours in advance.

Oh my god I can't believe you people. That is why you leave 3 hours in advance.

So you're saying to try to get a ride to the airport at midnight instead of 3 AM just in case there are no drivers? I guess spending an extra 3 hours at the airport to save $50 would appeal to some people. I'm a night owl, so possibly even to me :)

But if it was the difference between 6 AM and 9 AM, I'd rather sleep three more hours than save $50.

Then drive yourself there or get a family member to drop you off.

This would not be a good opportunity to test the waters, especially for your 1st time.

Alternatively you could load up the app and try to monitor the next few days (weekday? weekend?).

Soapbox time: this is why it's nice to live close to family where they can do you favors like this. Especially when you have kids too. Having family around is priceless.

I already said that.

Jesus christ PCS why are you on such an uber tear today. Leave it alone.

To the OP: You can now schedule an uber in advance, but it doesn't really schedule - it simply hails it automatically like an alarm. With your restrictions you'll probably be hard pressed to find someone, but I have gotten an uberX at that time near LAX (live about 20 mins south of LAX). You can likely find a car rolling around about that time, especially if you're in an area that may have bars that close 2am or so. Might have to take two uberX.

As others have mentioned, it's not that much more expensive to just schedule a cab in advance or a shuttle van (would probably be about 2x the cost).
