Now, i've had this same setup going for a LONG time on 2 other cpu/mb combos and ive NEVER had a problem before, but now that im this new setup, i have encountered some issues.
The card is a 2940U2W LVD
1 IBM 36 gig
1 IBM 18 gig
2 HP 18 gigs
1 Compaq 5 gig (boot drive)
the IBM's are U2W's, the rest are U3's with adapters to U2W.
These are the previous 2 setups which had no probems with these drives.
rig1:
p3-500
asus p3b-f
128 megs
rig 2:
athlon 1.2
asus a7a266
512 megs ddr
Now, ive just upgraded to:
Athlon XP 1700+
IWill XP333R (Sound and Raid disabled by jumper)
same ram as the previous setup.
Everything was fine, however, all of a sudden, one of my 18 gig drives became corrupt. All the info disapeared while it was in use.. If i turned off the machine and brought it back up, it came up no problem. But then minutes later disapear. I thought this was a heat issue, so i just moved the drives around and tried again. Same thing. I then formatted the drive completely and all was well for 4-5 hours. Then everything happened again, except the entire pc would slowly creep and crawl. Lag in a way. I did a check in event viewer (all os's on all system 2k pro), and it was saying:
"The device, \Device\Scsi\aic78u21, did not respond within the timeout period. "
This is the first time for me seeing anything like this. I thought its possible it might be a power issue. So, i unplugged one of my scsi dvd drives (have 1 scsi dvd, 1 UW plex reader, and a scsi plex burner). I also turned off write cache mode. Everything was fine for a while, then got a lot worse. I then installed SP2 and had no problems for another full day. Then just 45 min ago, while watching a movie on my pc, it all froze up for a min or so, then came back to normal. Checked event viewer again, and scsi card did the same thing, followed with read errors from all my scsi hd's. Everything has been np since, and ive been keeping an eye on the system. Could this be a power issue? Im about to try switch pci slots on the card.
The powersupply is a Antec 300 watt AMD Aproved. Theres 8 scsi devices total if you include the cd/dvd roms. Plus NIC/Sb Live/SCSI Card/Ati Radeon and the Athlon XP1700 cpu.
Thanks for any help, and sorry for this being such a long post.
