U2 + Radiohead = Coldplay?

At least, that's the impression I get from their new album. Just picked it up from Barnes&Noble this morning. Definately less morose than 'Rush of Blood', but its replaced the sadness with a sort of brooding 'helpless' sound reminiscent of earlier Radiohead. Combine that with Eno-tweaked sounding guitars and you've got a decent album. But every song still sounds the same, sort of (though its probably on purpose...as the songs sort of all bleed into one another.) Not bad...better than that Monkey Business I picked up earlier (but I still  Fergie!)

How can you say that every song sounds the same? I found that their style changes very much from song to song. Listen to The Hardest Part then Swallowed in the Sea and tell me they sound the same

True, but the album keeps building up to that point. The last 4-5 songs are the best IMHO (from Speed of Sound to Twisted Logic is like the crescendo, and then the bonus track brings us back down again.) But the first 6 songs sort of just bleed together. Like I said, its not a bad effect and I'm sure its intentional and it works well.

But a lot of Coldplay critics complain the first two albums had lots of songs that sounded the same, and I'm sure we'll hear more about that with this album.
