u2 - In God's Country

Yeah

Desert sky
Dream beneath a desert sky
The rivers run but soon run dry
We need new dreams tonight

Desert rose
Dreamed I saw a desert rose
Dress torn in ribbons and in bows
Like a siren she calls to me

Sleep comes like a drug
In God's Country
Sad eyes, crooked crosses
In God's Country

Set me alight
We'll punch a hole right through the night
Everyday the dreamers die
See what's on the other side

She is liberty
And she comes to rescue me
Hope, faith, her vanity
The greatest gift is gold

Sleep comes like a drug
In God's Country
Sad eyes, crooked crosses
In God's Country

Naked flame
She stands with a naked flame
I stand with the sons of Cain
Burned by the fire of love
Burned by the fire of love

more U2 goodness:

U2 - Bad

If you twist and turn away
If you tear yourself in two again
If I could, yes I would
If I could, I would
Let it go
Surrender
Dislocate

If I could throw this
Lifeless lifeline to the wind
Leave this heart of clay
See you walk, walk away
Into the night
And through the rain
Into the half-light
And through the flame

If I could through myself
Set your spirit free
I'd lead your heart away
See you break, break away
Into the light
And to the day

To let it go
And so to fade away
To let it go
And so fade away

I'm wide awake
I'm wide awake
Wide awake
I'm not sleeping
Oh, no, no, no

If you should ask then maybe they'd
Tell you what I would say
True colors fly in blue and black
Bruised silken sky and burning flag
Colors crash, collide in blood shot eyes

If I could, you know I would
If I could, I would
Let it go...

This desperation
Dislocation
Separation
Condemnation
Revelation
In temptation
Isolation
Desolation
Let it go

And so fade away
To let it go
And so fade away
To let it go
And so to fade away

I'm wide awake
I'm wide awake
Wide awake
I'm not sleeping
Oh, no, no, no

My favorite U2 song

 for you. I was serious about my picks for lyrical geniuses. Not to mention they can play some hella nice tunes to go with those lyrics too.

U2 used to be my favorite band when I was younger. I would agree with you that they USED to be lyrical geniuses. I can't really say that about the current U2. None of their modern stuff really grabs me like their older material.

Same goes for most bands though like Aerosmith. Their early material was great but now they're just horrible. They are still talented...they just can't right great songs.

I like U2's newer stuff too, like Vertigo. It speaks to me. Oh well to each his own.

Old school U2 =

Pride
Bad
Drowning Man
Wire
Seconds Two Hearts

If you have not heard these tracks, do yourself a HUGE favor and get them.
As Bono, says in one song, 'Seasons change and so do I' .... you may like the new electronica stuff, but from a purely musical standpoint, these songs will be around long after the new fluff songs have faded to black.

hola! :p
Up through Joshua Tree they were brilliant, after that only fitfully interesting to me, though still a few songs I'd say were good or even great.

To me, "Vertigo" is just another disposable party tune that could have been written and performed by anybody. It actually has me thinking fondly of "Elevation."

But to each their own. Most people would say Chris Whitley's Hotel Vast Horizon is boring, and Richard Thompson's entire catalog just a bit too gloomy.

Vertigo sucks, however.

One of these things doesn't belong here, one of these things is not like the other.

Uno - Dos - Tres - Catorce

or

1 - 2 - 3 - 14

WTF.OVER.

/edit already posted but every time that itunes/pod commercial comes on I cringe.
