U160 + Adap 29160 = no boot, no spin

I have an Adaptec 29160n and I'm using a U160 cable 68pin connected to an adapter that seems to be LVD compatible(becuz it has all the jumpers that the LVD ones have) and it's connected to an IBM 9.1GB U160 SCSI 80pin and at the end of the cable is an LVD terminator. There are no jumpers enabled on the HD. I'm going to look up the Adaptec jumpers and see what they're for. Everytime I boot up and wait, it stops at the Ctrl A and freezes where I can then do a soft reboot. When I push Ctrl A and get into the SCSI bios and go to SCSI config, it freezes at ID 0 LUN 0. I don't hear the hard drive whine up like a 10k should(I wouldn't know since I've never had one before but I know that it should sound like something and get at least warm). The light comes on however on the HD. I've tried a DVD Pioneer on the 50 pin and it worked fine. The cable seems fine since my hd was recognized(I don't know how) before. It might be the adapter but the jumpers are all off and I think they should be. The jumpers are ACT LED OUT, DLYD START, RMT START, SYNC, SCSI 3, SCSI 2, SCSI 1, SCSI 0. There seems to be a model # OS-2 94V0 Rev A. I will be getting 2 more HDs (similar model) and will try them. Please help, I want my hD to work!

Take all the jumpers off the SCA adaptor, set your controller to boot ID 0, set the computer bios to boot to SCSI, disable onboard IDE controller if it is ATA66/100. If the SCA adaptor is not LVD compatible many hard drives will not work on it. The most identifiable non LVD SCA adaptors have a Termination jumper, or a yellow colored diode? soldered on, or it has both 50 pin and 68 pin connectors on it. Not spinning up is classic for a LVD drive on a non LVD SCA adaptor.

Mastertech, I have done everything you have explained. I have also tried setting both/either the hard drive jumper to ID0 and the SCSI adapter in SCSI Select to ID 0. In bios, the first thing I did was disable the onboard IDE since I don't need it. I set boot to SCSI. I also compared the adapter to the LVD ones that I've gotten links to from searches on SCSi in these forums and my adapter seems to have the exact same jumpers with no yellow diode or terminating jumper. I've tried the DVD only on the adapter and that seems to work. I am getting two hard drives tomorrow and think they will finally solve this problem. The hard drive doesn't spin up although the power light comes on and I've tried disconnecting the cable and leaving the power but no hd activity. Like I said, I will resolve this tomorrow and post here. Thanks, anyways.
Regards, a patient and confused, AirJames

Hard drives won't come in until tomorrow(Friday) =( Fedex Ground changed the arrival date.
