Just don't forget that all the while, there are men and women out there risking their lives for your "entertainment" value from the privacy of your couch. Also remember that people on the sending and receiving end will probably take some casualties of it all, so don't marvel in the "show" of it all and forget that real people will die. I'm not some bleeding heart liberal either, I'm a soldier and I hope you don't find entertainment value in the possibility that my brothers in arms are putting their lives on the line.

Probably a better tactic than sending in one tank at a time, eh? That never worked in Red Alert.

Well said, While I agree that Saddam needs to go, getting entertainment out of the misery of others is just plain sick.

If that is their plan, their wont be much of a front line for US ground soldiers to have to deal with. War is never appropriate "for entertainment", but i would rather at least see what is going on than be in the dark. If it involves the routing of Iraq, then it wont be all that terrible. I would hope you wouldnt think the war is for anyones entertainment, however, if it happens, it happens, and if people see it on TV and want to watch it, they will. ie. CNN and bombing of Baghdad in Desert Storm.

Agreed. War is not about entertainment and show; it's not all about how nifty our high tech weaponry is at taking out specific buildings. Should it come down to it (and it's looking increasingly likely), I wish the best of luck to our soldiers, as my heart goes out with them.

Maybe I'm a little oversensitive to it all, but I can still remember vividly rushing home from my high school wrestling practice with my mom grief stricken and in tears when the ground war started and it was all played out on CNN. My father was in the Gulf War and not once did I delight or take entertainment in watching it play out. I remember that I skipped a few days of school to stay home and watch it on our TV in the living room where the sofa bed was pulled out and CNN was on 24 hours a day. This time, it's myself, my friends and my brother taking part in this war.

I for one, thank you and your father for that.

U.S. officials and analysts have predicted for months that an attack on Iraq would be swift, massive and designed to catch Baghdad by surprise.

Well, not a surprise anymore.

Isn't it suppose to happen during the halftime show at the superbowl?

On a lighter note, my brother plans to hold a Sam Adams bottle in the air while one of the missiles lanches in the background. Ever been to the Sam Adams tour? They have different pictures of people holding bottles around the world. I think my bro will make it onto that wall.

I'd imagine blowing up the entire country would end the war pretty fast. I can just see the new survivor show now, "Watch as we send 10 people to Iraq while america launches hundreds of cruise missile at the country, will they survive?........, or will they be blown to pieces?........., find out tomorrow night at 10 on the next.....SURVIVOR"

As long as they drop 20 or 30 of those ass-kicking Daisy Cutters so we can hear more awesome stories about those bad boys, I'll consider the Iraq thing a success.

From the sounds of it, we're going to do as much "reaching out and touching someone" as we can.

Using satellites to target cruise missiles, and precision-bombing from altitudes above SAM range will definitely save a lot of American lives.

Hopefully it will be as successful in Iraq as it was in Afghanistan, and we can reduce the threat to our ground troops.

Does anybody get the feeling that the foot soldier will be obsolete in the next decade?

You can NEVER replace ground troops. Sure, we can bomb the hell out of people and structures, but you will always have to send in an occupation force of some kind once that's all done.

Oh, no, I'm not forgetting that at all. I'm just thinking of how much we've advanced in the years since the Gulf War . . . who's to say that in 10 years we won't have have armored, remote-piloted aircraft . . . say like in Terminator, with VTOL capabilities?

It won't happen anytime soon, but I wouldn't say never.

You'd be surprised at what type of robots and unmanned combat systems that we are currently working on.;)
