H-1b visa

I think its a good move, but i wonder if the companies that use H-1b's will just notch up their outsourcing to other countries.

Good.
Was something stopping them from outsourcing anyway when they had 200,000 H1B VISAs? I read all the time about companies outsourcing regardless; and bitching and moaning about not having enough qualified workers. Well, 3 milliion jobs were lost, hundreds of thousands of high tech people were laid off because of the tech bubble. Pretty soon, when we outsourced all the jobs, there will not be a market in the US to sell to. We will all either work for the gov't, get benefits from the gov't or be training other worker from overseas to take over our positions at a quarter of the pay :disgust:

Hmm. I guess it's good for me, but I don't fault the technology companies for hiring H1B's, because in some fields there is really a shortage of qualified domestic candidates.
Americans have a luxury of majoring in stupid stuff instead of Electrical Engineering for example.

i agree that most US companies were using the H-1B for its cost benift rather than any other reason.

Yes. I don't think we need H1B's for IT jobs, because frankly those aren't all that technical, and there are plenty of qualified US IT workers. But there are some fields where it's absolutely crucial to get the best and the brightest regardless of where they are from. I think H1B should be reserved for those positions where you are bringing rare or unique talent, not just to save money.

The biggest problem in IT is that there are way too many "IT professionals" who got paid $100,000+ for surfing the net.......and today they can't understand why they can't find a job.......

This could backfire on its' intended purpose. The US has always attracted leading people in a number of fields in order to stay ahead in R&D. If US companies are unable to attract the talent they need, they may just relocate outside the country where they can attract the needed talent.

Yup, I agree with you. Even with domestic candidates in certain fields, there's a huge lack of them with graduate-level degrees/experience.
