Given the leading economic indicators, I would argue that it is 'rational exuberance'. Am I wrong?
The comparatively weak U.S. $ has had a positive effect on the DJIA. Of course there are other factors involved.

With the Feds not touching interest rate until probably 2005, where else do you put your savings besides the stock market? Even the best money market acct rate jjust barely beat inflation rate.

Not that i'm complaining about the market going up (i work in the brokerage industry), but you do realize that the biggest gainers are the lowest quality, most speculative, POS companies out there?

Here's a December 13th list of stocks with market capitalizations over $500 million that have risen more than 100 percent since the market low of March 12 this year, every single one of which is forecast to lose money in 2004. Source is from the Dec 13th issue of Barron's:

AMR, 695 percent
NTL (NTL), 615 percent
XM Satellite Radio (XMSR), 434 percent
Sirius Satellite Radio (SIRI), 417 percent
Charter Communications (CHTR), 387 percent
Avanex (AVNX), 384 percent
On Semiconductor (ONNN), 380 percent
Tularik (TLRK), 287 percent
Onyx Pharmaceuticals, (ONXX) 262 percent
Allegheny Technology (ATI), 259 percent
MGI Pharma (MOGN), 256 percent
Finisair (FNSR), 232 percent
Time Warner Telecom (TWTC), 220 percent
Atmel (ATML), 217 percent
Aquila (ILA), 206 percent
Unitedglobalcom (UCOMA), 182 percent
Crown Castle International (CCI), 182 percent
Ilex Oncology (ILXO), 172 percent
Nektar Therapeutics (NKTR), 161 percent
ImClone Systems (IMCL), 160 percent
Icos (ICOS), 156 percent
Esperion Therapeutics (ESPR), 150 percent
Corvis(CORV), 145 percent
Triquint Semiconductor (TQNT), 140 percent
Fuelcell Energy (FCEL), 140 percent
Protein Design Labs (PDLI), 125 percent
OSI Pharma (OSIP), 124 percent
American Tower (AMT), 119 percent
Millennium Pharma (MLNM), 115 percent
Wind River Systems (WIND), 111 percent
Enterasys Networks (ETS), 102 percent
Dobson Communications (DCEL), 102 percent.

In addition, SIRI up 60% plus since the beginning of '04, that's up 60% in TWO trading sessions, for a company with a market cap of $3.8 Billion, revenues of $4.3 million in '03, and losing money at the rate of $100 MM plus a QUARTER. Yes, the froth is back.

You must be smoking crack if you think Time Warner Telecom is going to lose money this year. The cable division is doing VERY well. Hell, they are Time Warner's cash cow. Where do you get your info again?

TWTC hasn't had a profitable quarter since they were spun off, according to our TW rep and earnings reports.

I almost bought TWTC last year near the bottom. Our rep, who is excellent by the way, did not advise for or against my intended investment.

Let me clarify as well. When i say something like "company XYZ sucks," i mean it in the sense of their STOCK, not the company itself, and it is a personal opinion. I don't have anything personal against the companies themselves, their product, employees, or anything of that nature. I'm strictly refering to a news article in which the author expressed an opinion of the stock shares as an investment. I am not offering financial or investment advice of any kind.

So Time Warner Cable hasn't been spun off yet, has it. They promised to do so last year but delayed it because of some irregularities. If Time Warner Cable isn't part of Time Warner Telecom, then I apologize. But I thought Time Warner purchased the remaining part of Time Warner Telecom from Comcast to Merge with Time Warner Cable? It's all so confusing.

EDIT: Maybe the coming merger is the reason why the stock is going so high. Perhaps investors expect Time Warner corporate to give it the go-ahead?

Who do you think will foot the bill to add Hydrogen to every Gas Station, the Saudi's? ;)

Heck, this is one of the few things that I won't mind they charging tax payer for. Less oil depedency = good, and will help renders the arabian penninsula of any importance ==> less money goes to terrorist :p

Yeah because we can get all the hydrogen from water and it doesn't take any energy. Where do you think this hydrogen is going to come from.

If its produced in the US and creates more jobs in the process, I couldn't care less. Heck, maybe those gigantic oil corp could transform themselves instead.

Bush Vows to End Tax on Hydrogen Cars

?This plan will obviously stimulate the economy by putting money back into the pockets of [the richest] taxpayers,? said Bush, ?But it will also help to finance the Iraqi conflict. You see, lower taxes means a better economy, and a better economy means more jobs, and more jobs means more taxpayers, and more taxpayers means more money collected by the government.?

Following the speech, Senate Minority Leader Tom Daschle (D-SD) was overheard asking Ted Kennedy (D-MA) to explain the relationship between lower taxes on hydrogen cars and higher government funds. After Kennedy explained the reasoning, Daschle?s head exploded.

A Senate sub-committee has been established to clean up the mess.
