U.S. slips to historic low in global corruption index

(Reuters) - The United States has dropped out of the "top 20" in a global league table of least corrupt nations, tarnished by financial scandals and the influence of money in politics, Transparency International said on Tuesday.

Somalia was judged the most corrupt country, followed by Myanmar and Afghanistan at joint second-worst and then by Iraq, in the Berlin-based watchdog TI's annual corruption perceptions index (CPI).

The United States fell to 22nd from 19th last year, with its CPI score dropping to 7.1 from 7.5 in the 178-nation index, which is based on independent surveys on corruption.

This was the lowest score awarded to the United States in the index's 15-year history and also the first time it had fallen out of the top 20.

And to think, this is before the Supreme Court said secret, unlimited political donations from foreign countries and corporations was A-OK.

"We're not talking about corruption in the sense of breaking the law," she said. "We're talking about a sense that the system is corrupted by these practices. There's an integrity deficit."

On a side note, Louisiana and Illinois account for what percentage of our political corruption?

(Note: I am not bashing Louisiana itself, just the political corruption, love the food and culture)

Welcome to the modern conservative Supreme Court, willing to overturn 100 years of well established legal tradition.

By people who promised under oath not to do this sort of thing, who pulled in the issue to expand corporate rights to spend in elections that wasn't even part of the case.

There has to be someone who's obstructing the socialist paradise Obama and the dems are trying to create. Its obviously not the little people, we're too dumb for that. It has to be the evil republicans.

Anyone else find it hilarious that a group called Transparency International would praise the USA just when its CongressCritters are voting on bills they haven't been allowed to see or even, in at least one case, a bill that hasn't yet been finished?

Can you say "just another leftwing agitprop organization"? I thought you could!

It is impossible to measure corruption as most of it goes undetected.

If you want to go by prosecutions or convictions... I believe Reagan's admin was the top dog for corruption.

the supreme court has not said that, but you already knew that because every time you repeat it you get called on it.

But Alito mouthed "Not true" when Ombama made the claim during the SOTU speach. So it can't possibly be true.

It is quite interesting if you remember how Bush-apologists here acted while their boy was president. The similarities are uncanny.

I've been saying they're indistinguishable since the 2008 election. Other than a few superficial details the left and right are the same, and both are too stupid to recognize it.

That's the beauty of democracy - people get the leaders they deserve. I agree with Bama, it's funny as hell even if they are taking me down with them.

Change you can believe in = more of the same.
Compassionate conservatism = more of the same.

You really can't make this shit up.
