WASHINGTON (Reuters) - A White House official who previously worked for the American Petroleum Institute has repeatedly edited government climate reports in a way that downplays links between greenhouse gas emissions and global warming, The New York Times reported on Wednesday.

Looks like fixing reports to fit your agenda became a "sport" in this administration.

I was wondering why this took so long to show up on the forum, the statements were released yesterday in detail.
All the major netwoeks had it in their evening & night newscasts in primetime as well, but it seems to be eaiser to ignore than face the facts.

If you follow the trends of the Administration, since the day they took office, with help from co-ordinated 'Talking Points',
released simultaneously to the Conservative Radio Network and a base of internet Blogers they have been quite
successfull in deflection of fact & shouting down those who find out and reveal this activity.

Worked with Rather - the comission that studied that found that the facts were correct, but the bloggers placed enough doubt
on the sources that they were presumed to be erroneous or fake, while in fact they were valid - albeit copies, and not the original documents.

Makes a case for the revelation of Cheney's 'special energy policy meeting' which withled the names of the participants to protect the Administrations sources - or cover up the true intent.

Another example of the Administration's blatent misconduct to mislead the people -
and get away with it through a perception of collective apathy.
If only the media would begin investigative reporting with the passion that they had for truth in the 70's.

Hmm. Well I am still waiting for proof that Global Warming exists. I would also like to see more than 25% of the world climatologists come out in support of it. But, I am sure this report would have done both of those.

what would be proof in your opinion?

So if no proof exists why do they have to alter the reports?

For anyone to claim they know what causes the warming and cooling cycles of the earth is a fallacy. Yes global warming may be occurring. However, what exactly is the primary cause and how the cycle works is still just a lot of theory. I have watched a program a few times now about what the source of the population on the American Continents, and where the people came from and when the first civilization populated the American Continent. To come up with answers they were studying arrow heads and the designs for stone tools. It was actually quite an interesting show. They were looking at the "Clovis First Theory"

When watching programs like this it is very clear that we have very little knowledge about historical climate details. Even the history of recorded temperatures is very lacking. When we start studying the Earth we might ask ourselves how places around the mediteranian sea are now under water that use to be above water. There was a reference in certain texts like the Book of Mormon to a huge lake in the north west that no longer exists. There is also an Indial legend stating it disappeared quickly as in overnight after some sort of siesmic event.

Temperatures can be adversely affected by things like Warming of the Seas and movement of Lava below the crust of the earth which can warm up the earth. Then there are external forces like a possible implosion or from radiation from the Sun that we do no know about. Then there is volcanic dust in the air or some other event which could cause problems. We truly know very little about climate history on this planet. We could study ice formation in the Artic, but it is hard to say what causes climate changes.

We know what causes Global Warming. We know that CO2 is a Major cause of it. We know that prior to the Industrial Revolution CO2 levels never exceeded 300ppm. We know that as of right now we are closing on 400ppm and that CO2 concentrations increase annually. We know that Human Activities release huge amounts of CO2 and that prior to these activities the only things to throw Climates off kilter were Major Volcanic eruptions.

We know more than many want to admit, certainly enough to know that we need to change our ways.

How so?? We know the radiation budget of the earth, and by using physics we can model the earth's climate. Thus we can understand what drives the earth's climate.

Nice jump from archeology to climate. The two are very related and analogous.

Even the history of recorded temperatures is very lacking.
Not really. We can use climate proxies to retrieve historical meteorological information for thousands of years. Heard of ice cores?? Tree rings??

Yes, clearly religious texts and legends are the best source for information about past climate. You're thinking like a scientist now!!

I wonder how many of these bloggers here are paid?

They ignore fact and cheer on whatever absurd anti-american values talking point that comes from the gop without a shred of common sense..

these people HAVE to be getting paid to be so blind imo...what else could it be? total brainwashing?

do they really think being an assh0le that cares nothing about himself and cheerleading how much bush can funnel off is a cool american thing to do?

We also know the Earth went through global warming before well before any Human ever dreamed of the gas guzzler.

the fact is that the change is happening faster than ever before

Due to cataclysmic events, yes. Unfortunetly nothing of the sort has happened recently. his is really simple to understand: It's not Volcanoes, Meteorites, etc that cause Global Climate change, it's what those things put into the atmosphere. Since the Industrial Revolution Man has been putting the same crap into the atmosphere and increasoing the amount over time. We have pushed beyond the all known Natural concentrations of CO2 and continue to increase those concentrations(something that never occured in Nature but for short events).

Quit believing what you want to be true and just accept it.

LOL! I love the parrots who need "proof"! When your feathers start to burn will you believe then? LMAO.
