still haven't received my mail yet... it is nothing urgent, but the post office closes at 5pm. Is there any type of requirement as to when the mail must be delivered by (except in extreme cases, i.e. weather)?

Just a thought, but if an older person, no longer allowed to drive, had to have something post marked by today, then they would be SOL
 
putting stuff in your home box won't get it postmarked at any particular time

if you have something that must be postmarked , you have to present it at the post office
 
The mailman in my neighborhood lags bigtime occasionally. Sometimes he shows up before 2:00, other times he doesn't show until 5:00.

I highly doubt there's any requirement for mail delivery times. How can they predict how much mail they'll have to deliver on any given day, for one thing?
