Trump administration practicing birtherism on American citizens of color. I doubt Norwegians are included

You beat me by 14 minutes. :)

So apparently between 1950-1990 some midwives along the Texas/Mexico border fraudulently supplied US birth certificates to ineligible babies. They also correctly supplied them to eligible babies.

During George W’s presidency and into Obama’s their State departments started denying passports. The ACLU sued since it basically wasn’t possible to determine who should or shouldn’t have been a citizen. Afterwards the Obama administration tapered off the practice.

Now the Trump administration as resurrected the practice as a pretext for challenging the citizenship of Latino Americans who live in South Texas including the 40 year old vet in the article.

The article also said some had been denied reentry to the US as their passports were revoked while on travel and others with valid birth certificates have been detained as illegal immigrants by ICE.

It looks like for some reason which I really can’t put my finger on the Trump administration doesn’t seem to care whether someone of Latino decent is actually a citizen or not before removing their due process.

Ah well if the government says they can’t tell if someone’s birth certificate is real or not then its probably better to detain and deport them. Besides it’s not like it will happen to me.

Hell I couldn't come up with the documents they are asking these people for. But I'm white, who cares.

Chickenshit bastards. There's really no other way to put it. "Your official Texas birth certificate might be fraudulent." What an incredible Catch22.

Everyone has their parents rental agreement from when they were kids. What ya talking about? lol. Honestly the documents they are asking for I wouldn't be able to come up with either. And it pretty darn stupid asking someone to provide a rental agreement their parents had years ago.

what a stoopid thing to say.

You could be right. It may not be racist intent. It's still completely ridiculous to attack the validity of an official Texas birth certificate. They can attack anybody's citizenship if they can do that. It's wrong to cast that kind of suspicion on any citizen. There are some things that must be accepted at face value & official state birth certificates are just that.

It's weird how the anti-immigration crowd keeps talking up the Constitution and the Rule of Law while ignoring how Due Process and Equal Protection of the Law are both guaranteed in the Constitution and considered integral aspects of the Rule of Law.

It's wrong to accuse anybody of having a fake birth cert on such flimsy pretexts. Just because a midwife confesses to having written fakes doesn't mean any particular one is fake. When we're talking about decades ago & this kind of thing, there are no records of particular cases & no valid recollections either.

And yet the Trump admin claims they're the victims of a witch hunt, which is certainly what this looks like to me.

Those are both concepts pushed through by the Oppressive North while the real states were fighting for their freedom.

The government should have to prove the birth certificate is fake. The burden on proof shouldn't be on the person with a valid birth certificate. If Texas wasn't completely in bed with Trump, I think they would object to the federal government challenging their sovereign right to issue birth certificates.

The death of due process under the law is what's going to change this country for the worse more than anything else. The concept of innocent until proven guilty has gone by the wayside in an effort to find quick fixes to problems. Or in this case just demonize a class of people and satisfy the xenophobia of some.

Read the article..

The fact that ICE is even doing this to ICE agents, seems somewhat incestuous.

The real irony is that "illegal" immigration occurs more at the Canadian border than ever did down south. How do you think the Russian, Greek, and Asian criminal families got here?

FedEx?

My mom called me today to tell me about this story because she's worried about a vacation my wife, myself, and my son are taking in 2 weeks. Granted we're not traveling to Mexico and my mom exaggerates everything, but we're flying to Grand Cayman. My wife is from central America and came here when she was 13. She is a US citizen and took the test like 13 years ago or so. She has a US passport and everything too. So does our son. But so did some of these people getting turned around at the border. This shit cray cray!
