Was wondering what everyones take is on the suggested immigration reform that the government is currently trying to enact and if you think its enough, too much , or falls way short of your expectations?
This question is for US citizens only. If I wanted the opinions of a bunch of foreigners I would ask. My personal opinion is that we are way too lax about immigrants and their status here in the US. I read a newspaper article today about illegal immigrants complaining that if the proposal passes they will be charged with felonies. So! If you break the law you will pay the penalty. The other thing that gets to me is how mexicans are so quick to cry foul when they are not the only immigrants here illegally. There are plenty of immigrants from other countries trying to escape where they are from for various reasons albeit some better than others. There are legal ways to get here and stay here and all immigrants need to focus on how to do that
Allowing immigrants to work here only hurts us more. They work for far less pay which makes employers want them instead of us because of cheaper labor. Buisnesses do not turn that cheap labor into cheaper merchandise rather they just profit more. So it hurts us because we need a certain amount of money per hour to live on and most minimum wage rates do not provide enough income to live on. There are a ton of minimum wage earners that do not make over what is considered the federal poverty level and that is sad thing to say. The federal poverty level does not even consider the economies of each city/state and whether the money earned will fall short or go far in a given area.
I think we need to close our borders at least for a period of time and maybe slowly open it up to immigrants wanting to be here legally. Until that happens the population of the US will explode to an unsustainable populous by, what is estimated to be, around the year 2050. We need to ramp up all our technologies and use them for border security. Government can agree that our borders are broken and that more needs to be done. Here is our chance to fix it.
