Well I might as well throw out my opinion. Unfortunately I do not see any really good options at this point. We can't really take care of Saddam once and for all for several reasons. If we went in there and unilaterally kicked his butt out of power, look at all of the political and economic ramifications. The Arab world would hate us(more than they do now) and would probably cut off our oil resulting in economic collapse. Look at the 1970's oil crisis. Most of you weren't around then, but take my word for it, it was ugly! Another problem is the power vacuum we would create in the region. Iran would probably invade Iraq and subjugate the country. Hmmmm, that doesn't sound any good either. How about we take over the country!! Naww, I don't even need to get into that one. Unfortunately, the coalition is gone at this point and with many countries that voted against Iraq wanting to lift sanctions, I think we just need to move on. Sanctions for 30 years haven't worked against Cuba; you think someone would have learned from that. I think we should have negotiated the removal of Saddam as part of the original bargain to assist Kuwait in the first place. At this point, I would leave the other countres in the region to their own defense, and if Saddam gets greedy again, let them figure it out. They come begging for our assistance again, it should cost them. Maybe $8 a barrel for oil or something...
