U of I acceptance questionable..... UPDATED 2/23

So, I applied for the school of business at U of I Urbana back in October

I check my online status mid december and it said "Admit" under the decision field..meaning I was accepted

I waited a week or so, and never got my offical acceptance packet... so I figured I'd apply for housing online to promise a spot in a good dorm...

In order to do this... I needed my school ID/PIN #
I went to the part of their site that told you your PIN when u typed in all ur personal INFO and got it... as if they already had ones addigned

I applied for housing fine and got the housing acceptance letter in the mail 2 days later....

So after a month of no acceptance packet, we call them.... They say "I dont know what you are talking about... we still are reviewing your application...you havent been accepted yet"

im like, wtf. it said online I was!

so i tell him I have a PIN and applied for housing and hes like "housing is a diff section of the school, they prolly didnt know u were not accepted yet... and as for your PIN... I dont know how that happened"

"you will have to wait for our offical decision... which can be as late as March"

I really do not understand this.... I don't know what to do if I dont get accepted... this was my #1 choice school....

UPDATE: So, I got a letter saying I didnt make it into the School of business, I got put on a waiting list for that..... but they are offering me Liberal Arts & Sciences, and I can just take the business courses and re-apply for the Business school my Junior year. They said last year all 68 ppl on the waiting list actually got it, but we will see. U of I was my #1 choice anyways, so I guess Ill just go there. I geuss with LAS I can get a taste of other stuff besides business....

5. Trade school
6. Hope that you get into your backup school.

So you applied to freshman admission for the business school - sounds like there are three separate parts to this, your application to the university at large, the app to the business school, and to housing. If you were accepted to the university at large I'm sure that housing would have put your application through. The business school probably has another process entirely.

no, it was one big app for the school and the business school.... meaning one decision....

its not that... we just finished 2nd semester last week and I did fine... and they wouldnt get a transcript unless I sent one...

They had no idea what I was talking about when i called the first time! they were just like "theres no way you shouldve gotten a PIN and stuff..." so I dont know

don't count on it... i'm applying for law schools and LSAC received 3 transcripts from my school (it was changed 3 times since i first sent one).

No worries. I was on U of I's waiting list for Computer Engineering. It was getting far too late in the senior year for me to bet on acceptance there and I began applying to other schools.

I didn't get my acceptance notice until April of that year and by that time I had already enrolled at another school I would have liked to study @ U of I but I guess it wasn't in the cards. I ended up becoming a CS/Math major anyways. I don't think the engineering was for me.

I'd apply to a few more schools in the area just to keep your options open and just wait for their decision. Good luck dude! :thumbsup:

Like, what I am saying is that I already have my University ID Number... something that it assigned to ppl that have been accepted... which doesnt make any sense if they havent offically accepted me

Call 'em up and bitch. The squeaky wheel gets grease, and if you have an ID number, keep calling 'till they explain themselves. Is it possible to make an appt. with someone in admissions and make a trip over there to ask what the deal is?

I could try calling them again tomorrow... but like, I dont want to piss them off to the point where they just dont accept me!

When are they supposed to send out decisions? If you didn't apply ED or EA or whatever, and they didn't send out their decisions to the regular apps, they probably made an error. Usually, whatever is posted on the website is the unofficial acceptance. When you recieve the SIR and the letter in the mail, that's your official one.

they probably messed up and accidentally assigned you a number. do they typically send out decisions that early? or do they send it out en masse in march/april?
