Professor Soto is the head of Gender Studies at the U of A. She used her speech at the
UofA College of Social and Behavioral Sciences graduation as a platform for her
anti-SB1070 opinions and gay rights. She began her speech talking about gay rights, then
immediately went into how our state is racist and is promoting racial profiling and how
everyone there needs to participate in protests against AZ legislation. In turn, she
gets booed off stage and at one point, the dean of students got on the mic and screamed
"civil discourse, sit down". Ruined everyone's graduation.

Here's a link to clip.

What happened to 'great job, now go find your dream' ??

Why use a forum like that to push your personal political agenda.

Something like this happened at my graduation. I don't even remember what it was that was said. Not thatI could care. I didn't even care to go to graduation. I did so because my mom made me go. I don't even want hte piece of paper. Jsut give me my damned transcripts. That's all I paid for.

I've got to agree with PJ on this. I've been to dozens of graduations, many with politicians (governors or higher) speaking and never heard anyone give a politically tinged speech-even when the speaker was a presidential candidate.

OTOH, the priest at my father-in-law's funeral launched into an anti-abortion rant for no explicable reason. None of my wife's family went back to that parish ever.

Attend any one of these graduation ceremonies and it is nothing but an indoctrination session. My sister graduated from the University of MN with a masters in elementary education. We sat through a 45 min speech from some 65 year old hag who told us how much she loves minorites, how bad whites are, and how shitty the world is because of capitalism. I was just rolling my eyes. And everybody who spoke had to remind of us that. It was a giant circle jerk. Luckily for us since my sister got a masters she was one of the first groups to walk the stage. So we left at intermission.

It is outrageous that those poor young people who have worked so hard, and whose families sacrificed so much to prepare their minds with the intellectual capacity to find decent and rewarding jobs in our wonderful country, should have to listen, on their day of glory, to some vicious sexist hag with a chip on her shoulder and a dildo under her gown the size of a horse cock, rant and ramble on about issues of concern only to commie leftest fags and illegal Mexicans, and listen, moreover, in an obviously very hot sun, when anybody with even an ounce of sense knows that party time and beer is waiting. What an arrogant bitch. How dare she expose those beautiful young minds to ideas around which there is political conflict and a need for mature and intelligent judgment. They didn't get an education for that, pay all that money for that. All they want is that piece of paper so they can become the kind of mental midgets and drones that post in P and N.

I once read somebody describe America as a soap bubble that lasts a long time only in a quiet medium. Perhaps that person was far far deeper than I because at the time I hadn't the faintest idea what that could possibly mean, but it came to me here just now, and perhaps it means that Americans have a deep and yet inappropriate sense of entitlement, that everything in the world should never offend them. Perhaps it's because their real self esteem is so low or their freeways so flat, that even the slightest bump in the road unnerves them and they go from calm and happy to raging lunatic tantrum.

All I know is that when I listened to those closed minded pseudo-educated immature goons begin to bellow, this is Merica, any yeah, as any low grade moron bully out of depth in an inch of water would, I nearly lost my breakfast.

So I curse the bastard that made this post because it offends me and may he be booed off the stage for exposing the sadistic sadness of America's best on graduation day. May the Mexicans take all their jobs and breed them into extinction.

Come on Tonto. Hi-yo, Silver! Away!

WTF is the point of graduation ceremonies? To piss away money and make others look good. Its a waste of time.

Does anyone think she learned anything from this? Understood she was being sent a message? Or, is she going to continue going through the rest of her tenured existence convinced that everyone else is unenlightened and just plain wrong?

When Congress gives Calderon a standing ovation as he slams our nation, wise people understand that we are probably on the brink of some deep shit. The wishes of the electorate are but an annoyance to this bunch.

Graduation day is about the students, not the speaker and their political views. I'm glad she got booed.

Maybe you were asleep during the video and didn't notice that while some booed many more were clapping in agreement. The mic was in the anthropology section of the crowd where all the apes were.

And furthermore why bother to even try to educate the worthless scum. Just give them their diplomas for 100,000 and send them on their way. Why fuck with their minds and try to improve them. It's all about the students and what they want. They should even be the teachers, not the hop headed bastards that have spent a lifetime studying information. They don't know fuck all.
