Breaking news piece on CNN.com. Will follow with link shortly. Looks like the U.N. is taking Bush seriously. Only a matter of time now...

March 18th!

It depends. I feel we will have the votes on Tuesday. The question is will France veto the resolution. While I dont think they will, but if they do veto, bombing will commence Thursday, after allowing 48 hours for the inspectors to get as well as any civilian that wants to leave. Most countries have already pulled their people out of Iraq.

Funny how France claims 1441 does not provide for use of force to disarm arm, but the new resolution would authorize force. The new resolution only repeats 1441 and says iraq is in violation of 1441.

I have a strong feeling France with veto the new resolution. This will be done in pure defiance to the US.

Prudent on the part of the UN. I wonder how the inspectors are going to leave. Saddam will be watcing them of course. Once they bow out, I am sure he will notice.

17th is the deadline for Iraq cooperation. You would beleive they would have until midnight of that day. So figuring in timezones that is around 6 pm Eastern. Then give Bush two hours to get verification and 8 pm he announces Iraq is to be attacked. The US might wait a day for the shock to hit the world or something to that affect?

Meanwhile, in Washington, President Bush attempted to marshal support Saturday for a U.N. draft resolution that would give Iraq until March 17 to disarm, and once again threatened to act even if he fails to gain the world body's blessing.

I have to give Bush credit for a really high stakes game of Texas Hold'em. He must be a great poker player. He is definitely betting his presidency on this war.......;)

Actually if the resolution passes it would be the 19th, they will be giving a 48 hour warning so the inspectors can get their plane in and get them out. Their plane is in Cyprus. It also allows civilains to take cover or get out of the way. People from other countries have already high tailed it out of Iraq.

Dont forget the other side is betting no weapons will be found or the war will go badly. Both sides have much to lose.

I think you are mistaken. Much like Bush BS . . . this issue is not a dichotomy. Bush's minions believe war is the only way to get his way. The diversity of opinion is in regards to what is the desired outcome (containment, disarmament of WMD, disarmament to the satisfaction of Kuwait, or regime change) and what is the best method (gradual inspection/disarmament by grudging consent, inspection/disarmament by force, ignorance is bliss, encourage Saddam to leave, or bomb Baghdad/kill Saddam.)

It is the constant attempts to reduce this conflict to some dichotomy that has produced such disdain for the US government position. If it's moral as Bush/Blair claim today then why was it not morally imperative 6 months or a year ago. Sept 11th has NOTHING to do with what is morally right or wrong. It's just a convenient excuse for Bush Doctrine BS. Budget deficits were a crime against future generations during the 90s . . . now it's a necessity and/or not necessarily bad.

If Saddam is such a threat to US security how come Israel isn't shaking in her boots? I would say b/c missiles have return addresses and even terrorists can be tracked b/c it's a long rowboat ride from the Middle East to NYC.

If Saddam has a plan for making nukes but can't import any of the material . . . who gives a flying cow chip if he keeps the plans? It's cheaper to send a kid to MIT or CalTech anyway.

Can't account for his ricin or anthrax . . . damn sux to be one of his neighbors but we can't serve as the world's police force . . . particularly when most of the neighborhoods we visit are playing "F... the police".

Yes, he is. But then he is doing as he sees fit, without being a poll following president. :D

He follows his convictions and moral beliefs, which is what a President should do.

If the inspectors have ANY sense whatsoever, they will leave before the 17th.

Actually, they might as well leave now, one way or another, the war will start within the next two weeks.

How many countries do you think are releived the U.S. is willing to go it alone, so they don't have to weigh in on the issue and stand by their convictions?
