News story here, basiclly the U.N wants to put some restrictions on the sale and trade of small arms, worldwide. Read the article, it's got some good information on what other countries want done.

My point here isn't to initiate a "guns are bad vs guns are good" debate, start another thread for that. It's that the UN is taking steps to undermine our rights given to us in the consitution. What if they see the ability to withhold evidence that may incriminate ourselves as hindering justice. Are they going to pass a worldwide ban on the 5th amendment? Our current leadership wouldn't cave into them, but what if we got a president who did. Do we really want the world deciding how we should live?

I like the elder Bush's remarks during World Peace Day quite some years back (I think it was world peace day, or just "hug-a-tree" day):

"The American way of life is not negotiable." ...and they know where they can stick their "Kyoto" treaty...

Not to worry the president caving in doesn't mean diddly. The Supremes will see to that with a couple more conservative appointments.

Should be noted that the US is not only opposed to restrictions for it's citizenry having the freedom to possess firearms, but it also objects to many of the export restrictions.

The UN can kiss our butts... they don't have the power to influence how our country operates internally.

I think the UN has some crazy notion that they can create a world-state. The fact is... we as a planet are not ready for that... Europe is becoming a single nation... and thats about as much movement to the world-state as we can take right now. There's too much conflict everywhere else. Ideologies and ethics and laws have to be much closer between nations before this idea can become a reality.
