I cannot begin to fathom what those poor girls and women are going through......humanity, left unchecked, as a whole is monsterous.

After rape, many women were shot or stabbed in the genital area, and survivors told Erturk that while held as slaves by the gangs they had been forced to eat excrement or the flesh of their murdered relatives.

It's shit like this that makes me call into question our governments priorites in bringing 'democracy to the world'.

It's shit like this that makes me call into question our priorities as humans. We are selfish creatures.

Wow... I knew this sort of thing went on in other parts of the world, but reading another news story about it never ceases to shock me.

Some of them are the same people responsible for the massacres in Rwanda? WHY DIDN'T WE SHOOT THOSE DIRTY BASTARDS? Jesus.

I'm really against violence, but it makes me want to go out with a machine gun and murder all of those rapists. Such evil must be exterminated.

Africa sounds like a fun place.

We certainly arent doing much to help.

I'm sure if Africa was a huge source of Oil, Dubya would suddenly be interested in spreading democracy there. Our governments priorities make me sick to my stomach. Even when we're "helping" it seems mostly to be for reasons of greed and little else.

I wonder what Dubya even has to say about sh!t like this in Congo, sad really sad.

Africa isn't exactly an island, you want to spread peace keepers all over the continent? We have done a lot to help, they always find a way to screw themselves back into the dark ages when you're starting to gain hope.

The UN has been in the Congo for years. They were actually part of the problem as UN peacekeepers were doing some of the raping and prostituting of women there.

Congo isn't half the problem, it's the whole of Africa that can't get it together. Mozambique, Niger, Gabon, Liberia, Sierra Leone, Angola, Guinea Bissau, Congo, Rwanda, South Africa, Eritrea, Zimbabwe, Madagascar, Seychelles, Ethiopia... countries that had growing economic prosperity and then a shitfest comes along, often caused by an incompetent government, I think I've named a good part of Africa here and that probably isn't the half of it. It's not us, it's them. It's a law of nature, any African country that sees growing economic prosperity is subject to imminent corruption, crash and revolt.

WTF is wrong with these people?
"Women are gang-raped, often in front of their families and communities."
They have enough guns to kill the whole community? Doubtful.
But I guess until that mindset that allows it to happen changes, it will continue to happen.

I agree. I'd HAPPILY take the bullet before I rape my own daughter.

doenst work that way because that is the response you would get from any father. what they would do is put a gun to your wifes head or other childs head and say do it or your wife or other child is going to die.

hard hard decision... what would you do? if you dont then you have the blood of a loved one. if you do then you have to live with having sex with your daughter. i wouldnt call it rape because its done under duress and against both of the wills of the father and daughter.

Never realized it was the US's problem to police the World. Everyone wants us out of the middle east and Iraq which had atrocities similar to this one happening everyday in Sadams jails but now we feel for the Africans?

Let another country step up and take the lead in this war!

Africa is a backwards country, and its their job to change that, not mine. Change comes from within.
