OMG.. i am about to have a heart attack.. spend like 1.5k on this new amd system.. putting it together. I tailed one fan, had it connected to a fanbus, and it would not turn on.. so i took it into my hand, and the 5v lead was stripped.. somehow while the system was on it touched the metal case and the system turned off.. i tried to remove the wire but it seemd glued to the case now.. i got it removed and NOTHING will power up now.. oh sh*t...... wtf did I do ?

Well first u did replace the HSF right? In any case u might have fried the Athlon, so u may be in for a new HSF and CPU, as long as the wire was glued to the case, and not the mobo, it should be fine. I doubt u have a spare Duron or Athlon around right? The most u might need to replace are the CPU and HSF most likely. Relax, don't Panic.

damn.. i feel like i just got laid again ( sorry for the pun hehe ). Faulty wiring with that fan or something.. or maybe when I tailed it , I did not sodder correctly.. i am an amateur.. i went to radio shack and got a 45 watt sodder and some iron.. no heat sink clamp either.. so after i was done the whole connector and fan were hot.. i am throwing both the connector and fan out right now and getting something from a local store.. compusa.. i dont have enough patience to wait for a panaflo hehe.. need system now ! :)

So you're saying u "made" a HSF? Never do that, especially with a Athlon. Athlon's produce at times 60W of heat on the higher end models. I doubt a new HSF will help, because how long did u run the system before u knew the fan stopped? It takes only seconds for a Athlon to get fried.

with the power supply un plugged, switch it to 230vlts,wait a minute, then switch it back to 115.On some units, thats the reset.Take the part that shorted to ground out of there.

what squirrel said. I was messing around with bare wire fans (i cut them out of old power supplis), and shorted the +12 to GND. instant power-off (thank god ;)), and it wouldn't turn on. after unplugging it and waiting a while, it would turn on again.

I think I would unplug everything from your power supply (motherboard, hard disk, fans, CD's, etc...) and measure the power supply connections for proper voltage. You can get a cheap meter at radio shack.
