I just got a brand new Dell, P4 2.2

Of course I had to pull out the CPU to see how it would do on my gigabyte PE667 ultra2

Now, not too long ago, I got a dell 1.8a, and the CPU was a dud B0, not even doing 130fsb (I didn't try anything else)

so I'm praying with this chip

so I look at it and it says SL5YS COSTA RICA

B0

but i'm still determined
I haven't tried it yet, but I noticed on the code the first four digits are 3205

now wouldn't that imply week 5 of 2002?
were they making 2.2's that early? or is it a typo?
I've never heard of a typo on an intel printed code
they're so official

I hope it's a typo
because if it's that old I'm asking for my money back

I still have to test it though

update:

I tried 130 fsb at default, no dice
I also tried it with 1.6v, booted, completely unstable

oh well, was worth a try

I'm still boggled by the date though

my other 1.8a I got from dell about a month back was a B0, but it was week 4, 2003
anyone know if they were making these things then?

To answer your question yes they were making 2.2's then....A fab date which you are reading would likely be a month or so before packing date into the heatspreader socket you see and then have a chance to get into channels. Plus Dells are historically the first to get a lot of the new chips...hence all the c1 stepping pulls early when no etailer really had them....

Now the 2.26 (533fsb) came later then the 2.2ghz which is the older 400mhz fsb....

I would be surprised if it did much more then 133fsb if it does that....That early in fab date had many chips reaching the 2.4ghz range max....It wasn't until the mid may dates did we see 2.6 to 2.7ghz range which this chip would need to post in...

yeah 133fsb is same thing

I can't believe a new dell came with such an old chip though
that's over a year old

The 2.2's were not very popular among around here as it was so close to the point where intel started jumping to the b chip and the 533fsb...likely large stock of a chip that was really doomed being at a point of product cycle..
