Hi there,

I am running Windows XP Professional SP1 on a Thinkpad R40 (Pentium M 1.5, 512ram), and notice that there is some intermittent typing lag. Although it doesn't happen often, it happens even when I'm not doing anything cpu intensive (on msn messenger for example).

I don't have reall any background programs running, other than Norton Antivirus and ZoneAlarm, both of which i shut down, and still had the same problem. The lag is only for a few seconds usually, until whatever i was typing is completed.

Any help would be appreciated.

Sounds like a program running in the background, make sure that auto update is disable, and use msconfig to shut down all tsr's...also, could it be autosave in your word program?

the thing thats kind of messed up about laptops is that they are pre-made by computer sellers = extra programs. dell seems to be the worse. don't you just hate "FREE AOL OMFG! 30 DAYS!"
i still love laptops though.

I have a feeling that it has something to do with speedstep. If I leave my computer for a bit, then return, it seems that is when it lags most often, just for a few seconds.

I am going to try running on maximum cpu power settings for a bit and see what happens.

edit: tried it and it still happened.. hmm...... anybody running a thinkpad with the IBM configuration software installed? (Battery Maximizer etc)
I'm wondering if that has anything to do with this
