I'm running an Athlon 1.4 with an SK6 and a Sunon medium speed 80mm fan with an adapter.
My case has 5 fans, three intakes and two exhaust. I was using a Dragon Orb 3 and with that my idle
temp never rose above 37 C, but it was too damn loud. With the quieter fan and the SK6, my temps are
45-50 C. Is this normal? What can I do to lower the temps a bit.

thanks

What motherboard are you using adn what is your system temp? Those two factors determine your "average" temp more than which heatsink you have.

My SK6 ran at 47 with a Sunon 60mm fan, and ASII. Since adding an 80mm fan, I dropeed down to low 40's.

The temps on my 1.4 with an SK-6 and 60 mm delta fan (LOUD!) are about 45-50 C as well.

Those are safe temperatures, so you shouldn't be worried.

but yeah, DID you use arctic silver?

I am using arctic silver II. My motherboard is an Asus A7M-266.
I'm using Asus Probe to get these temps. motherboard temp stays
at around 25 C. What is the limite for the temperature on a athlon?

well, first of all, asus probe is notorious for being inaccurate..by up to 10 C

You don't want you're athlon running higher than 70C..the "actual" limit is somewhere around 90C i believe....i'd say the "safe" limit is probably around 65 C

There's been several threads on this. After 60 degrees, alot of people have unstable systems.
Thread 1
Thread 2

Hope this helps. You should be fine, and if your machine is stable, I wouldn't worry too much.

Edit - Oops, sorry I just repeated info from an above post. Sorry.
