Typical Rehearsal Reception

My parents are trying to come up with a number of people to come to the rehearsal reception and my mom was saying my grandparents shouldn't be invited since they aren't 'in' the wedding... is this normal?

She's going to freak when I tell her how many on my fiance's side are planning on coming...

That's ridiculous. I don't know why your family would want to exclude your grandparents.

Even when you keep the cost down, it is customary to invite close family to the rehearsal reception. It serves just as much as a venue for the two families to get to know each other as anything else...

How close is close enough, though, depends upon mostly the wishes of the bride and groom...
