If you're looking for a solution to cover all computers in the library (or just the kids' lab), you might want to look into a server-side solution. They're expensive, but nearly unbreakable (w.o a password) because no software runs on the computers themselves (internet settings tell it to look at the proxy server w/ the filtering package installed, if the settings are changed, the computer won't get online. Kids wanting to look at porn will find a way to get past software installed on the PC (PC Magazine did a story where they tested filtering software, took them 15 minutes of googling to disable the one they gave the editors choice).

I don't know what to suggest though. N2H2 has some solutions, I remember talking to them a few years ago at ISPCon. You might also try checking ZDNet's archives for the PC Magazine article, as I know they checked some server-side solutions in addition to client side software.

Just the kids comp, they whole point of it is to stop pages from poping up by accident or the kids going there by accident. The kids comp are watched my a co-worker and I watch all the other comp since it is my job to watch over everyone and teach ppl how to use them. We dont want something big just to stop accident cause my co-worker cant be there all the time.

just a note, these programs have a habit of getting kids in trouble for doing nothing wrong, ignore any reports they generate or history, sometimes the kids cant control (or dont know) what site is about to open up [which is why these progs useful], theyre not being bad, hey they know the software is there and theyre not stupid :)

just wanted to say that cuz i hear alot about people getting into trouble for doing nothing :)

Just wondering how old these kids are. These content filters do keep out good things too. If the kids are really small that will be less of a problem though.

They are around 3-10 years old. I dont think they are that resourceful. Its not ment to stop the ppl who know how to get around it, just to stop inapropreat thing from poping up if the clicked on the wrong link or something

I didnt even mean anything about stopping people that are determined to get around it, just that it blocks some appropriate content. Some of them stopped information on breast cancer from coming up on the screen. This information is a little much for a 3-10 year old, thats why I asked. :)

Well I guess I mis-inderstood, sorry. I am gonna try that we-blocker program and give it a test run. If it blockes out sites like that they can just call over a employee to help them.

Its not a problem. I probably didnt say it well. Plus with kids that young, you shouldnt have to worry about it a whole lot.
