Chipsets for what? Pretty much everything electronic uses a "chipset" of some kind.

Hundreds, if not thousands. I spent a month researching and documenting them last year and didn't get them all, and that was just for the PC.

Can you be more specific?

Computer Chipsets made the Personal Computer Possible to mass produce. This is a very wide subject.

Well motherboard manufacturers use chipsets when they manufacture motherboards. They often purchase them from Intel. However, the motherboard manufacturer may implement the chipsets in different ways with different features for their motherboards. So they usually publish chipset drivers for their specific motherboard model and version.

I am using a motherboard with an Intel Brand with the chipset Q68.

As intel makes new processors they release new chipsets to support newer features. They also give them code names like Sandy Bridge or Ivy. An i-5 2500k would be a Sandy Bridge processor. Ivy is newer.

The function of a chipset is to standardize motherboards and make it easier to hook up devices like drives and printers.

Chipsets as far as the PC is concered, can be traced backe to the original IBM PC.
