What type and speed memory can be used for the Biostar M7VIG (not the pro version) ? (with 1 gig DDR modules, rather than 2 x 512mb). The CPU is a simple AMD 1.3 gig.

From what I can gather, it will accept up to 2700 DDR ram, but I am not certain. It is the original Biostar M7VIG bios, and I have not flashed the BIOS yet. I do not see a BIOS version on boot up, possibly because the SCSI card introduces its own bios version upon boot up.

If there are Motherboard settings that should also be changed from the presumably generic ones that are presently working with the PC133 ram, that would be appreciated, also. Thanks.

its a km266 based board, and im pretty sure they only run the memory at pc2100 speed (ie. 133mhz) but installing pc2700 works fine, it just runs underclocked

and it shouldnt have any problems with 1gb dimms

motherboard settings wont really need to be changed.

Thanks, Boonesmi
Would even faster ram, such as 3200, which could be used in a future MB, not this one, work ?

I suppose I could put 3200 ram on this board, it would run underclocked and in the future I could shift the 3200 ram to the board which will accept it ?

Make sense ? Or would any ram faster than 2700 be a problem with this board ?

Thanks again

pc3200 will run just fine in that mobo (it will just run at a slower speed then it was intended)

pc2100, pc2700, pc3200, etc, etc are all the exact same stuff. its just that some is rated to run at higher speeds
