Type of rotors matter?

cross drilled, slotted, or regular ones that have a smooth surface.

i have an 02 lexus is300. i need to replace my rotors but not sure if i want to spend the extra money to get cross drilled rotors

cross drilled and slotted rotors dissipate heat faster than solid rotors. they will probably not make any difference on your lsxus.

Reg rotors will be fine. The drilled/slotted ones would be over kill for the majority of street cars. It look snice but for the most part will not help that much for what they cost for a GOOD pair.

Check out www.rockauto.com for prices as they seem really hard to beat, even with shipping. Check out fatwallet for a 5% coupon

Sorry but you are misinformed, refer to my above post.

Not sure if it will help your lexus, but my Avenger I went from changing the rotors every 10k to 60k+ on the crossdrilled ones when I replaced the car. There was a HUGE performace difference too, less fade, much faster stopping.

Car and Driver recently did an article comparing brakes. Pretty interesting how some lasted cycle after cycle while others just took a header. But it took some hammering on them to make a difference. Normal street driving won't show much, but on a road course you can see where the difference would be immediately noticeable.

10K for rotors?

Man, I've got 40K on my WRX and I'm still running original pads and rotors. Haven't had to have them turned.

Mostly highway miles but still.

Something was wrong with your brakes, 10k for rotors is not normal under any condition.

Crossdrilled and Slotted have less total friction so in normal street driving, you lose power. Of course if you drive on race tracks all day, the added heat dissipation helps you regain it back, but only if you plan on doing abs activating threshold braking all day every day.

Crossdrilled and slotted are best suited for track cars and show vehicles, get yourself some brembo blanks. Lower price and better performance(NVH) on the street

Thats crazy, are you using a harder pad than stock?

I run the standard semi-metallic pads and stock rotors
(160k miles) on my truck that has oversized tires and overheats the brakes quite easily in the city. They are still easily within spec.

The rear drums on the otherhand are not, I need to replace them.

Only use slotted or cross drilled on vehicles that come with oversized rotors otherwise you will have the heat issues.

There was a problem with the brakes on the early Sebring coupe/Avenger and the brakes would wear out and the rotors would warp very quickly. That problem is fixed on the later cars.

yes it was a 95, and the stock rotors were horrible, same basic car as the eclipse/talon, like I said though, a straight swap to the not stock recommended xdrilled rotors, and I didn't have to touch em again, after changing 2 sets out after 10k.

The only difference was rotor/pad, I did get 2 sets of aftermarket straight up vendted discs, both not the cheapest crap from autozone or murrays, forget which. Ordered from summit, and never touched them again
