Not sure there's probably many people on here that didn't either already see this via InnerFidelity or Head-Fi or other headphone sites, but Tyll retired. Sounds like InnerFidelity is going to change some (kinda sounds like they're going to try and cater more to the mainstream, but will still be doing measurements although they're changing them).

The thing is, Tyll had actually been doing that a fair amount (he'd been raving about some Bose speaker that you wear around your neck, and he's praised Bose noise-cancelling, he's even talked fairly positively about Beats - who have improved in response to criticisms so its not that he sold out; he's been saying for years that he thinks that personal listening is going to be a tech thing with companies like Apple or others offering DSP and other processing to move things to the next level), so I think some of the vitriol is a bit misplaced in that regard. He was even open about measurements and that while he was confident in the quality of his and open about the choices he made with regards to various aspects (like corrected measurements), he was adamant that his weren't the end all be all.

Sad to see him go as he was a positive force in the headphone field, and I worry that we might see a shift towards the status quo of audiophile circles, as he provided a more balanced opinion and was able to be critical and be taken seriously or not be shouted down. Some of it might have been his humility and civility (the latter often lacking with some others, which a lot of people would then dismiss even when they had valid criticisms).
