Downloadable Content, The Penny Arcade Podcast - Getting Down

Direct link to the MP3

For some reason playing it using the web-based Flash player makes it play at 2x speed on my system, but the direct link works fine.

In this podcast, Gabe and Tycho spend some time discussing the insane fanboyism being displayed over the Lair/Heavenly Sword ratings fiasco going on right now, as well as other pertinent gaming topics. Really worth a listen.

They do make a number of good points. Didn't listen to the whole podcast...but I liked how they were making fun of the ridiculous puzzle in Metroid and they were spot on with regard to the Lair/Heavenly Sword reviews. Just because the games aren't the best doesn't make the PS3 bad...just a system with a poor library at the moment.

"If you can only purchase one *console* alot of your energy goes to rationalizing that choice"

Interesting theory.

Definitely not a bad listen, atleast up until about minute 27 or so when they stay on the topic of the stone "rhino" in Metroid for the remainder of the clip.

Just got to the part about taking pictures in Bioshock... man I agree with them on that. I have two coworkers who are playing the game, and I'm having a hard time convincing them how important it is to take those damn pictures without giving away details. Natural camouflage + crossbow owns.

LOL man I'm only 10 minutes into this, and so far it's great. It's so damn 100% on the ball!

I love how he said he had to tell himself all these SNES games sucked because he only had a Genesis and was too young to buy another one himself.

The nice thing about these guys (and Penny Arcade in general) is that they really aren't fanboys, unless you simply terms them as "video game fanboys". If they bash a title, you're reasonably assured that they're doing it on the level. I think that really shines through in this podcast.

Edit: Oh, and I fixed the links in the original post to include the direct download link and a better online player link.
